Holistic Psychiatric NP Advice
As I mentioned in my last Blog – natural foods are very important to help keep someone healthy. You may ask, why to I talk about sleep, food and exercise in relationship to health……Have you ever put gasoline in your car that was contaminated? Well, I sure have!!!! …..What happens, it sputters, or misses, or may not even run at all.
It’s the same with people. Sleep is important as the last tune up your car had. Whole foods and clean, natural water, are the best fuel. When you eat natural, whole foods, you are giving your body the fuel to give you a good output. Clear thoughts, energy for the day and you’re not contaminating yourself.
When you eat whole, natural foods your body is able to extract vitamins and minerals from the foods you eat. Salad is one of the best choices for a portion of a meal, because, when foods aren’t cooked, the vitamins are more bio available. When foods are cooked, especially fruits and vegetables, the enzymes that the body uses to help the body take up the vitamins and minerals are altered and less of the nutrients can be used. When you eat ‘junk food’ you get fats and other contaminations that don’t offer the best nutrition.
Please, I do not subscribe to eating raw meat, fish or eggs because there are many substances that can be harmful, there can be bacteria, parasites and viruses that are neutralized by cooking.
I have had clients come to see me (I prescribe psychiatric medications) and during the interview, I am told, “Hey doc (I have a PhD so they’re not totally wrong) this medicine you give me stinks! I feel tired in the morning.” After further discussion, I find out that the client doesn’t eat breakfast. So, before I make any medication adjustments, I have to counsel them on good nutrition.
So what will be the ongoing theme of these blogs is, KISS. Keep it simple (you know the rest). If you don’t eat well if you don’t sleep well, you can’t expect to function well and no medication in the world, legal or illegal is
